Good lighting is essential to healthy plant growth. Because the best light comes from the sun, the best indoor lighting most closely mimics the sun's color spectrum. There are several main types of lighting that can grow plants effectively:

• T5 or Compact fluorescent
• L.E.D (Light-emitting Diode)
• H.I.D. (High Intensity Discharge)

Compact fluorescent fixtures are used primarily for leafy greens and vegetative growth, although there are bloom spectrum bulbs available. They produce relatively low heat and get the best results kept 6" to 12" above the plants.Currently, the most efficient type of H.I.D lighting is the L.E.C (Light-emitting Ceramic) or CMH (Ceramic Metal Halide) 315-watt fixture. CMH bulbs are mixed spectrum having both blue and red/orange colors. The best bulb to use for these fixtures is the GE Philips MasterColor or GE Phillips MasterGreenPower 315.
